Based on what you know about the case and the museum, can you work out which of these statements is reliable and therefore work out the height of the offender?
Eyewitness 4 – The thief is 6ft or less
Using the information you have collected about the crime so far you can find inaccuracies in 4 of the 5 statements, leaving only one which can be identified as the reliable statement. The inaccuracies are as follows…
Eyewitness 1 – if the thief had been in the Grand Hall for a full 4 minutes they would have been seen by the caretaker when he returned.
Eyewitness 2 – this eyewitness says the thief still had the torch on their way back even though we know it was dropped, broken and left at the crime scene.
Eyewitness 3 – this witness says the thief turned right by the fourth window but there are only 3 windows on the left-hand side of the building.
Eyewitness 5 – this witness says they saw the suspect running down the corridor on the left of the building and then turning right through the window under the stone frog, but from looking at the exterior of the museum, you can see the only stone frog is on the other side of the building.
Everything in Eyewitness 4’s account matches up with what we understand took place and so can be trusted as a reliable account.
