64-65 - Dropped Letter

Can you decode this ciphered letter?

Hint 1

Where have I seen those hieroglyphics before?

Hint 2

I reckon you can utilise the hieroglyphic alphabet you decoded earlier to decipher this piece of correspondence.

Your lover. X”

66-67- Staff Noticeboard

Solution

69 – Locked Door – Chairman’s Office

Can you work out the 5 digit code and unlock the door?

Hint 1

Start where there’s three, go through where there’s two and end up where there’s one. I knew you’d need a hand with this one!

Hint 2

When there’s three that’s position, direction, number. When there’s two that’s direction then number and when there’s one… that’s just a number.

Solution

4 5 1 0 5

The code is hidden in the stone hands. Upon studying the shelves you’ll see that only 5 shelves have 3 stone hands in them. These 5 shelves are the starting points for figuring out each of the 5 digits in the code. The hand on the left tells you the position of the digit in the code (eg 1 = 1st digit). The middle hand shows you which direction you need to move in to find your next clue and the hand on the right tells you how many shelves you need to move in that direction. By moving that number of shelves in that direction you will find yourself at another shelf with 2 stone hands in it. The sets of 2 stone hands work in the same way as the last two hands in the set of 3 (giving you a new direction and number of shelves to move). Continue to follow those directions until you reach a shelf with just one hand in it. The fingers displayed on that hand give you the digit in the code. Empty shelves represent a zero.

Hint 1

Find the route through the maze and write down all the letters that the pin passes.

Hint 2

Solution

F A N S Y J X G

Simply find the correct route through the maze and write down the letters you pass on that route.

74-75 - Eyewitness Testimony

Based on what you know about the case and the museum, can you work out which of these statements is reliable and therefore work out the height of the offender?

Hint 1

You’ll need to use all the evidence you’ve collected so far to work out which one of the statements is true. Think right back to when you first arrived at the museum.

Think back to what Dr. Knight told us when you first arrived in the Grand Hall. What was left at the scene of the crime? And what was the timeframe in which the crime was committed?

79 – Locked Secret Bookcase Door

Can you work out which 3 books open the secret door?

Hint 1

I reckon this riddle should be taken at face value… in fact
I can see two books with ‘great’ right there in the title.

Hint 2

I suppose orchards have trees and phantoms can’t be seen.

Solution

Three Musketeers – Frankenstein – Treasure Island

Unlock this secret gate. By choosing the one between the greats.
The next connects the two we can’t see.
And the last is the land beneath the trees.

The final three lines of the riddle each tell you where one book can be found in the bookcase. ‘Choosing the one between the greats’ literally means the book inbetween the two with ‘great’ in the title (The Great Gatsby and Great Expectations). Counting 3 books out from each you’ll find Three Musketeers. The ‘two we can’t see’ refers to The Invisible Man and The Phantom of the Opera, the book that connects them vertically in the bookcase is Frankenstein. The ‘land beneath the trees’ refers to Treasure Island because it is a body of land which sits directly beneath The Cherry Orchard.

83 – Locked Drawer

Can you work out the code and unlock the drawer?

Hint 1

Don’t forget to examine all the artefacts on display and learn of their beginnings.

Hint 2

There are five rows of shelves and you need a 5-digit code.

Solution

3 7 5 1 8

Take the first letter of each object in the cabinet and put them together to spell out the 5-digits of the code. Each row of alcoves gives you one digit in the code: the top row is the first digit, the second row is the second digit and so on.

Row 1 – Tooth, Head, Ring, Egg, Eagle = T H R E E
Row 2 – Scorpion, Eye, Vase, Elephant, Nest = S E V E N
Row 3 – Fish, Insects, Vase, Egg = F I V E
Row 4 – Owl, Necklace, Eel = O N E
Row 5 – Earwig, Iron, Globe, Horseshoe, Trilobite = E I G H T
