And the last is the land below the trees.

The final three lines of the riddle each tell you where one book can be found in the bookcase. ‘Choosing the one in the middle of the greats’ literally means the book inbetween the two with ‘great’ in the title (The Great Gatsby and Great Expectations). Counting 3 books out from each you’ll find Three Musketeers. The ‘two we can’t see’ refers to The Invisible Man and The Phantom of the Opera, the book that connects them vertically in the bookcase is Frankenstein. The ‘land below the trees’ refers to Treasure Island because it is a body of land which sits directly below The Cherry Orchard.
