then the door opened and Earnest Robinson, the Museum Deputy Director appeared.

“Ah Cooper, you’ve done it have you… let’s see… telescope 1608, mercury thermometer 1714, the sewing machine 1790, telephone 1876 and then the ball point pen in 1888. Perfect Cooper, well done!”

“You don’t work in a museum for 27 year without knowin’ yer dates” Bill replied, quietly passing me a small, electric torch from his pocket.

I smiled and slipped back out into the corridor.
